Farhana is currently an L7 software engineer at Google, where she leads the GCP reliability team responsible for ensuring that Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is reliable for its external customers.
She specializes in developing centralized solutions that make architectural changes throughout the platform, enabling GCP to meet its reliability promises in a cost-effective way. Her key strength lies in her ability to navigate complex problems and build consensus around deeply contentious decisions across multiple organizations, based on structured, technical influence. Farhana has been an SRE at Google for 9+ years, and she has previously led critical network infrastructures for the company.
Prior to joining Google, Farhana completed her PhD in Computer Science from UIUC, where she specialized in energy-efficient communication in dense wireless networks. She also holds a BSc in Computer Science from BUET, where she was the first in her undergraduate class and was awarded a gold medal for outstanding academic achievement.
Aside from her professional achievements, Farhana is passionate about mentoring engineers who are navigating their career growth opportunities. She also gives back to the community, particularly in the education sector for underprivileged children.
In terms of hobbies, Farhana enjoys reading, traveling, and trying out new foods.
